Devtakhum,  Bandarban : How to go to Devtakhum- The One Mile Travel


The name Devtakhum was taken from marma language.  It means 'water fall' .Devtakhum is a place of  natural beauty  in Bandarban. Here clear water flows in the middle  of the high hills from both side. It is  an attractive  place for tourist.It is situated  at the Roangchori of Bandarbon District. 

According to the locals of Bandarban  , it is about 50 feet deep and about 800 feet long. There is a huge Jungle on thebothside of this Khum . Due to the steeps hills, sunlight can not reach derictly into the Khum. So, the more you go inside the khum , the cooler it feels. The place is very quiet and noise free. Its water is also quite  clear .  Firstly  you need to  make bamboo  raft to go there. It is a thrilling  experience for the tourists to go to inside this Khum on a bamboo  raft. 


 From Bandarban  Town you have to come to Roangchori  to Kachhaptali Bazar . Then , you need to take permission  from Liragaon cantonment.  From there you can trek foe an hour to reach Shilbandha. Devtakhum is near to Shilbandha Para. Before  Devtakhum , there is another khum called Pong Su Aung had to be crossed .  It is also known  as 'Sonakhum' to the local people. It I not safe to go here without  a guide  during  the rainy season or any other time .  If you  do not know  how to swim, you should  wear a life jacket before entering  the Khum.


Cost : 

  • If you come from Dhaka  to Bandarban  by buy , the bus fare will be 620 Tk per person.   It cn vary depending  on bus. 
  • Bus fare from Bandarban   to Roangchori  is 60 Tk per person.  
  • Car rental  from Bandarban  to Kachhaptali  by a local car armed chandigari will cost 2000 to 2500 Tk for the whole day. You can  also go to   Kachhaptali  to Roangchori  by CNG and the cost will be approximately 150 - 200 Tk.
  • Boat crossing,  life jacket  and raft rent will be 150 Tk in total  .
  • Total  cost of guide - 1000 Tk. 


Where to eat 

  • There are many restaurants  next to bus station  at Bandarban.  Among  them , Ruposhi Bangla and Kalapara  restaurant is the best. Breakfast  will be around  50 to60 Tk. After  arriving  at Kachhaptali  take you lunch before  starting trekking.  Otherwise  you will not get any food after trekking.  There are 3 to 4 food shop there. You will get chicken,  palm and mashed potato  there and the cost will be around 100 to 150 Tk. 

 Where to stay 


If you leave Bandarban  for  Bandarban  for  Devtakhum in the morning,  you will be able to reach  the city again in the evening  . So, if you want you can return  to Dhaka or your destination  onthe same day after dinner. But if you want to stay in Bandarban  there are several hotels of different  quality in Bandarban  city.

A few hotels in Bandarban:

  • Hotel Hill Dew :  This hotel is next  to the main  bus stand in Bandarban city. A fairly  good  quality  hotel and the  room rent is 1500 to 6000 Tk.
  • Hotel Plaza :  This is also  a very good  restaurant  . Nice tidy hotel. Room rent will be 1500 to 6000 Tk.
  • River View :  It is also 4 km away from the city near  Nilachal. Room  rent  is 1500 to 4000 Tk.

Some  precocious  thing to keep in mind :

  • You have to  go to Kachhaptali and report the army camp with  the guide. Must have  two photocopies  of National  Identity  Card / Passport.  It's  a good  idea to tell the guide  in advance  about  the raft to get around Devtakhum. 
  • There will be problem in the network.  You will  only get Robi / Airways network  in Kachhaptali.  But on the way from there to khum  you will  be completely  out of the  network  . If you don't  have  trekking shoo , then buy it. You can  buy it from  Bandarban  too.
  • On the way to Devtakhum  you will find a fountain  called  Shilbandha Jharna. Be sure to check  out the fountain  on the way.
  •  The real  beauty  of Khum can be seen in the rainy season. 
  • Don't  take any snap of the tribe people  without their permission. 
  • Don't  do anything  that will spoil the environment.
